An historic event happened September 13. The United Nations, after nearly 25 years of work, adopted the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Only four countries voted against the declaration: the Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States.
Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, an indigenous Igorot woman from the Philippines, is chairperson of the UN Permanent Forum of Indigenous Peoples, and she was at the center of the work of adopting the Declaration.
