Local Jobs Through Local Banking

Local businesses have created over two thirds of new jobs in recent years. But big-business banks won’t lend to them; locally owned community banks provide the majority of small business loans.

Free Speech TV talks to Stacy Mitchell about the advantages of community banks and how they can aid economic recovery.

Stacy Mitchell is a senior researcher with the New Rules Project, a program of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance that challenges the wisdom of economic consolidation and works to advance policies that build strong local economies. She wrote "How State Banks Bring the Money Home" in YES! Magazine's latest issue, New Livelihoods.
