crude_movietrailer.jpgWhat is the real price of oil?

This is one of the questions raised in Crude, a 2009 documentary film that investigates a $27 billion class action lawsuit in Ecuador. The case is brought against Chevron by 30,000 Ecuadorians living in the Amazonian rainforest who point to the environmental damage and health impacts of the oil industry: "What was once paradise, has just been left in destruction."

In Crude, a movie three years in the making, filmmaker Joe Berlinger takes pains to show interviews from both sides of the legal battle while exploring the human rights, environmental activism, and media components of a case that pits indigenous cultures against foreign corporate power.
